Rocky Point News February 2018 - Spread the love!

Spread the love!

Happy Valentine’s Day! Why not make it the whole month? Who can we care about just a little extra this month or on Valentine’s? Whose dreams do we want to come true? Who needs a little pick me up message? Who can we bring a little laughter to their lives? It only takes a few minutes to light up someone’s day (young or old) and this is a perfect month to do it. If not now when? To all of you we thank you for being our valued clients, for your support and friendship. We wish you a very Happy Valentine’s Day!

Leave someone “happier” and feel awesome for doing it

Happy Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is a celebration of love and friendship. The idea of Valentine's Day seems to have originated during the Middle Ages, somewhere around the 14th or 15th century. The holiday derived its name from two Roman martyrs for love, both named Valentine.

The first Valentine was beheaded on February 14th, but not before leaving a note signed from your Valentine for his lady. The second Valentine was supposedly a bishop who secretly married young couples, an act that was forbidden by the Roman Emperor who wanted young men to first serve as soldiers before marrying. Valentine ignored the law and was beheaded on February 14. An ancient Roman festival called Lupercalia, a celebration for which young men randomly chose the name of a young girl to escort to the festivities, has also been linked to the origins of Valentine's Day. Since then, the custom of selecting a sweetheart on February 14th has spread through Europe and its colonies and transformed itself into the celebration of love and friendship that we know today.

Here are some ideas for things to do on this day:

  • Send someone you care for a Valentine's Day card. Take the time to write a small note or love poem inside. Sign it, from your Valentine.
  • Go to a special romantic dinner with your sweetheart. Tip: Book early as this is one of the busiest days of the year for restaurants. (It can also be on the beach, just saying...)
  • Watch a romantic movie after dinner.
  • Send a Secret Valentine to someone several days before, and then reveal your identity on February 14th.
  • Remember other important people in your life, such as your parents, grandparents and old friends. Send them a small card or gift to remind them of how much you care.
  •

"Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend." - Martin Luther King Jr.

President's Day
President's Day, or Washington's Birthday as it is still legally known, was originally designed as a celebration of George Washington's birth date.

In 1880, Congress voted to make this the first national holiday which honored an individual. In 1968, Congress enacted the Uniform Monday Bill, to give workers as many long weekends as possible. This moved as many holidays to a standard Monday each year.

Many states were already honoring Abraham Lincoln's birthday, February 12th, and this celebration was combined with George Washington's birthday, for one federal holiday.

It is observed on the third Monday in February each year.

The Morning Rituals Four Health Experts Swear By

Mornings are a perfect time to set a positive tone for the rest of the day. But that's hard when we're in a rush and mornings are a blur of shower steam, crummy coffee and a brisk breakfast.

Those extra five snoozes are undeniably tempting, but there's a few great reasons to get up earlier to extend your mornings and fit in some you-time, whether that's in the form of breakfast, exercise or a quiet moment drinking coffee in bed.

"I'm a real fan of having a routine because it helps set the day up in a really positive way," accredited practising dietitian Chloe McLeod told HuffPost Australia.

"Something as simple as making the bed or having a shower at a slower pace can work really nicely to help centre you and go into the day feeling much more calm and energised."

Beyond that day, having a set routine every morning is also great for the long-term.

Take a moment for yourself before getting stuck into work.

"Routines become habits, so if our daily routine incorporates habits that are good for us, it will go a long way towards helping us to feel healthier and happier," nutritionist Fiona Tuck said.

Rushing and stressing in the morning not only makes the rest of the day more challenging, but it can affect our digestion, energy and cortisol levels.

We just want to say thank you for hanging in there with us until the very end of our sale of our Las Conchas home. You handled the challenges like a pro! Market Analysis December & 2017 Year to Date

2017 showed strong growth in sales for the Sandy Beach Condo market and I see that trend continuing.
While the beach communities experienced some growth, it fell short of what I had anticipated, my “optimistic” outlook is that 2018 will be a considerably stronger year.

7 Reasons Your Body Wants You To Plan A Beach Trip Right Now

Ah, the beach. Is there anything better? There’s just no place quite as relaxing, beautiful or pleasant, and no place that combines the simple pleasures of unplugging and enjoying nature in our otherwise tech-heavy and work-driven realities. The beach helps us recharge — and we need to be making A LOT more use of it.

We know most jobs already offer vacation time, but considering these specific health benefits of the beach, maybe it’s time they carved out days for their employees to spend in the sun and sand.

  1. Sunshine is a great source of vitamin D.
  2. Sand is a natural exfoliant.
  3. It could help rheumatoid arthritis patients feel better.
  4. Also, sunlight has been shown to decrease depression.
  5. Seawater preserves elasticity of skin.
  6. A day at the beach gets you moving without even trying.
  7. And perhaps most importantly, the beach decreases your stress level by helping you unplug.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday celebrates the life and legacy of a man who brought hope and healing to America. We commemorate as well the timeless values he taught us through his example — the values of courage, truth, justice, compassion, dignity, humility and service that so radiantly defined Dr. King’s character and empowered his leadership. On this holiday, we commemorate the universal, unconditional love, forgiveness and nonviolence that empowered his revolutionary spirit.

We commemorate Dr. King’s inspiring words, because his voice and his vision filled a great void in our nation, and answered our collective longing to become a country that truly lived by its noblest principles. Yet, Dr. King knew that it wasn’t enough just to talk the talk, that he had to walk the walk for his words to be credible. And so we commemorate on this holiday the man of action, who put his life on the line for freedom and justice every day, the man who braved threats and jail and beatings and who ultimately paid the highest price to make democracy a reality for all Americans.

Thank you for lighting so many of our days in Rocky Point. Were grateful for you, our valued clients, this month of Thanksgiving and always.

We’ll have our Thanksgiving feast with our family looking out to the beach we love. A family tradition we have on Thanksgiving is for each of us to share (from the youngest to the oldest) what we’re thankful for. Yes, we have some tears before we’ve finished and great joy, laughter and love. What’s your tradition? Is this the year to create one? Savor the moments... Happy Thanksgiving!

Market Analysis October & 2017 Year to Date

October saw lots of visitors to Rocky Point and increased interest in “on” and “off” beach homes and condos. Inventory in the beach communities and Sandy beach condos continues to shrink.
  • Las Conchas inventory is misleading and influenced by the addition of about 20 condos on the market at Corona Del Sol
  • Sandy Beach is enjoying growth and declining inventory.
The Rocky Point home and condo market continues to strengthen at a moderate and healthy pace.

Fall’s on the way! What would you like to do this fall? What one thing will give you a memorable fall? Do you have a few minutes to “play” with it? Remember when you were a child and “curiosity” was your sand box? It was where you lived and played.
Yesterday I built a “castle” with our 4 year old Grandson. It consisted of one recliner, one arm chair, a blanket for the roof and floor, a sword made a flag and his face said it all: “we have our very own castle”. Plus, we had a picnic in our castle. Where’s your imagination/curiosity going to take you this fall?
Sure hope you find time to come to the beach and create your own sense of wonder just as you did when you were children. Do it with someone you care about and enjoy it twice as much. Happy Fall!

Market Analysis August & 2017 Year to Date

Our market continues to improve, in the past 30 days we have closed on 4 of my beachfront listings, 3 in Las Conchas and one in Laguna Shores.
2 selling in the $750,000 range and 2 in the $400,000 range. It is encouraging to see movement in both price segments, especially the $750,000 range considering the highest priced sale during the past several years was around $650,000
October is reported as being the busiest month of the year as it relates to visitors coming to Rocky Point, so we will be adding several new listings and look for great buyer activity in October.
Contact me if you would like a valuation on your home.
If you have a specific need or interest, let us know and we will provide you with customized information. For more details click on the following report.

Mexico Independence Day!

Independence Day (Día de la Independencia) is a Mexican holiday to celebrate the “cry of independence” on September 16, 1810, which started a revolt against the Spaniards. It follows from the day of the Cry of Dolores (El Grito de Dolores), on September 15.

Mexicans celebrate their country’s Independence Day with fireworks, parties (fiestas), food, dance and music on September 16. Flags, flowers and decorations in the colors of the Mexican flag – red, white and green – are seen in public areas in cities and towns in Mexico. Whistles and horns are blown and confetti is thrown to celebrate this festive occasion. "Viva Mexico" or "Viva la independencia” are shouted amidst the crowds on this day.

September Equinox

The September equinox occurs the moment the Sun crosses the celestial equator – the imaginary line in the sky above Earth’s Equator – from north to south. This happens either on September 22, 23, or 24 every year.

On the equinox, night and day are nearly exactly the same length – 12 hours – all over the world. This is the reason it's called an "equinox," derived from Latin, meaning "equal night." However, even if this is widely accepted, it isn't entirely true. In reality, equinoxes don't have exactly 12 hours of daylight.

September Equinox in Rocky Point, Mexico is on Friday, September 22, 2017 at 1:02 pm MST.

International Day of Peace

The International Day of Peace (“Peace Day”) is observed around the world each year on 21 September.
Established in 1981 by unanimous United Nations resolution 36/37, the General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to  “commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples.”

The 2017 U.N. Peace Day Theme:
Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All

This theme is based on the TOGETHER global campaign that promotes respect, safety and dignity for everyone forced to flee their homes in search of a better life. TOGETHER brings together the organizations of the United Nations System, the 193 member countries of the United Nations, the private sector, civil society, academic institutions and individual citizens in a global partnership in support of diversity, non-discrimination and acceptance of refugees and migrants.

August 2017 Newsletter

Let's enjoy the beach together!

We would like to dedicate this month's newsletter to youth and humanity. Celebrating the International Youth Day and World Humanitarian Day, it seems good to think about what these two days mean; one linked to the other, because we cannot hope for a humanitarian world if we don't focus first on our youth.

Starting at home and keep doing it wherever we go, teaching the youngest about love, respect, compassion and empathy, we teach them to be grateful and caring as we all are. Because they are, after all, the future of humanity.

“We cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can build our youth for the future.” – Franklin D. Roosevelt.

"You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty. " - Mahatma Gandhi

Dementia & Music

Depending on the type and tempo, music can reduce stress and agitation, prompt word retrieval, calm and motivate, lower blood pressure and heart rate, and control pain.

Researchers are finding that there can be changes in neurochemicals when people either hear music they like or make music singing, chanting, or playing instruments such as drums. To put it simply, music activates the pleasure centers of the brain.

And don’t forget memory. Music can help in recalling memories, which is really important for people starting to lose their memory.

We Love Summer!

Summer’s a great time to read a memorable book.  What are you reading?  We’ve just read:  “Make Your Bed” Little Things That can change your life and maybe the world….by Admiral William H. McRaven.  It’s a fast read and reinforces the fact that little things in life matter.  Currently reading “The Rhythm of Life” by Matthew Kelly.  It’s about knowing your purpose in life and asking yourself the questions “what do you desire from life”.  Powerful for all ages.  Whatever you’re reading enjoy.  It’s amazing how much wisdom is found in the printed page.  Hope you enjoy our newsletter!

UV Safety Month

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has declared July UV Safety Month. The goal is to spread the word about how important it is to protect your skin from the harmful effects of the sun’s UV rays.

Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the U.S., but there are other complications from overexposure to the sun as well. These include eye problems, a weakened immune system, age spots, wrinkles and leathery skin.

Summer is here—and it’s HOT—so the key is protection. This is a great time to remind you about the “5 S’s of Sun Sense.”

  • Slip on clothing to keep your body protected.
  • Slop on sunscreen to all exposed areas of the body.
  • Slap on a hat to keep your scalp, neck and top of your head protected.
  • Seek the shade between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. when the sun is at its strongest.
  • Slide on protective eyewear to keep your eyes sun-safe.

Nelson Mandela Day

Nelson Mandela International Day commemorates the lifetime of service Nelson Mandela gave to South Africa and the world. It was launched on his birthday, 18 July, in 2009 via a unanimous decision by the UN General Assembly.

“It is in your hands to make of the world a better place,” he said a year earlier, calling on the younger generation to take up this task.

Mandela Day calls on us all, every day, to make the world a better place. Each year on 18 July we look back on what has been done, and forward to what will be done.

Making every day a Mandela Day celebrates Madiba’s life and legacy in a sustainable way that will bring about enduring change.

Our Clients Say It The Best!

Dear Grant,

Just a note to let you know how much we enjoyed working with you in the sale of our house in Las Conchas.   You were always professional and upbeat.  You seemed to really care about us and the sale of our house. When the offer finally came in you handled all the legal/escrow work with extreme professionalism. We did not have to worry about how to do this transaction in Mexico.  It was very smooth and stress free.

We would certainly recommend you to anyone who is looking to buy or sell real estate in Mexico.

Sincerely,

Jim and Charmaine McKaskle

Happy Father's Day! - A journey full of treasures.

Happy Father’s Day to All the Father’s reading our newsletter. Hope you have some time this Father’s Day to reflect on your journey as a Father.                                       We have 4 sons and they’ve given our lives so many incredible memories. Many of them happened on our Playa Encanto beach where they’ve grown up. Traditions that last a lifetime:  building sand castles, riding ATV’s, playing washers, board games before we had lights and phones at our beach house, Thanksgiving feasts and the list goes on.

What about your list where does it take you?  How many treasures have you found along the way? Tears of love, sometimes sorrow, gratitude for the moments that words could never express they’re all part of the amazing gift of being a Father.          May your journey continue to grow richer every year.

P.S.  Wait until you become a Grandfather, if you’re not one already, it’s the icing on the cake!

About Me: Lorenza Orozco

I was born in Baja California Sur, but I went to study to Guadalajara and lived there for 10 years before I came to live in Rocky Point in 2006. I am married to my husband Fernando and I have 3 kids: Sergio of 2 years old, Luis of 4 and Paulina of 14.  I am very proud of each one.
My family and I  enjoy living in Rocky Point, swimming in their beaches, spent time in Malecon with friends or family and see one of the most beautiful sunsets. Rocky Point is a quiet lovely port.

I interrupted for a while my professional development to be focused on my family and home. Now, after 6 years, I returned to work, thanks to RE/MAX Directors for this opportunity, I am so excited for this new stage in my life.

I like to acquire any kind of knowledges, be useful and keep a good communication.

Life is short so I like to treasure small great moments.

Our Clients Say It The Best!

Hi Grant,

We want to let you know that without your help we would never have been able to make the sale of our home and second lot a reality. Didn't know where to start but Carl, my son and business partner, had met you in Rocky Point and you had been kind enough to give him good advice in the past. He remembered you going out of your way and valued you recommendations. Years later when it was time to sell we knew who we wanted to work with.

I seems such a daunting and complicated undertaking. You and your associates explained each step and made the experience something that was timely and fair for all concerned. Real Estate in a foreign country requires a great deal of experience for a transaction to move forward smoothly. We would not hesitate to work with you again in the future. Your customers are very happy.
