Thanksgiving at the Beach MacKenzie Style Thanksgiving at “casa de Suenos” is always a memorable event. It’s a day of family and friends enjoying our beautiful Playa Encanto beach home. To start the day off right Grant and Branden cooked a delicious breakfast on our 1930’s Wolf stove. We have a fabulous griddle/grill for bacon, sausages, potatoes, eggs and tortillas. Tasty bloody Mary’s while cooking are always a hit. We played washers on the beach, cribbage on the patio (Corey skunked his Grandpa) and Towering Blocks at the dining room table. After dinner it was Catch Phrase by the fireplace and then everyone moved outside by the fire Vince made for us and continued playing. Dinner was a joint effort, everyone brought a dish…mashed potatoes, candied yams, green bean casserole, peas, rolls, salad and we had one turkey in the oven and one in the deep fry. Maggie brought wonderful homemade apple and pumpkin pies. 15 adults and 4 children were at our Thanksgiving table this year. A tradition we have is for everyone to say what they’re thankful for while we’re having our Thanksgiving feast. We always have a few tears, choked up moments and lots of laughter. This year was our youngest grandson’s first participation in the MacKenzie Thanksgiving beach celebration (Nathan is 1) and our great friends Matt and Michele’s daughter Reese, who is 8 months, was with us too. |
